An illustrated guide book to give readers a brief understanding of Hong Kong Food Culture. Topics included the history, food culture tips and interesting facts of Hong Kong Style Street Food Stalls & Cafe, Chinese Tea Houses, Cha Chann Tang, Western Cafes,Herbal Tea Houses, Snake Shops, Dessert Shops. All expressed with articles, interviews, illustrations and infographics.

 
 

擁抱不確定 Embracing the Uncertainties

It is a travel sketch book containing more than 70 pieces on location sketches, inspiring stories and thoughts of A.H’s solo trip in Latin America, in addition 13 true stories from 13 travellers / local people telling the possibilities in their life.

 

MY FAVORITE ASIAN FOOD

The artbook is a project curated by IN/SECTS in 2021, the editorial team would like to show readers the memories behind food drawings, i.e. the romance of food love.

The book presents the selected favorite Asian food and short stories of 60 illustrators from Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Korea. I have submitted my illustration with a short memory with the Hong Kong tofu meals. The illustration is being printed as one of the box cover for the special cover versions. Book launch comes with an illustration exhibition tour in Japan during the summer period.

In Between

The artist has completed several sketchbooks in recording her observation in between various spaces, seasons and weather throughout the year upon her arrival to London. It is a zine to present some selected sketches with a few pieces of narrative in response to the enjoyable and memorable moments she had with various people and spaces.

Meal for One

This zine summarizes some of the artist's creative fast meal for one recipes, which resulted from her experiments of finding most efficient cooking ways with a limited set of cooking tools at home. Her own cooking tools, seasoning collection and all dishes are presented in light watercolour illustrations, a recipe without photos is a format the artist would like to achieve.

The recipe included 7 Hong Kong style, 2 Japanese style, 1 Korean style and 3 Western style dishes.

Cha Chaan Teng.Connection.Community

A Exhibition Zine of Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng Culture

A summary of the exhibits and stories of the exhibition, which was held in Contrast HK from Apr to July 2022. The zine offered audience a chance to keep the exhibits and stories as an private collection or a gift to friends. Curated, illustrated and designed by Alison, photos and words by Sammuel Lai.

There is no place Before Arrival

The 2nd riso-printed zine created by the artist.

Alison selected a series of travel sketches she made in the past few years, to curate a narrative, which questions the relationship and meaning of places, mobility and existence. The zine offers the space of imagination to the readers and redefines the meaning of various places, with and without the arrival of oneself, especially during the pandemic era.

All About Tofu

A zine about Hong Kong tofu culture

The zine is an extended story of Artist’s 2nd book about Hong Kong Food Culture.

As a fan of tofu,Alison would like to share the story of a local tofu business. From the same origin, SOY Beans, a wide range of tofu and relevant products are being produced as low price food ingredients, which contribute to Hong Kong people’s daily meals throughout the years.The setting of traditional tofu shops attached with workshops have become a special part of tofu culture. Before the disappearance of tofu culture under the rapid urban development in the city, Alison wishes to use her illustration and words to pay a tribute to the people, who have spent their life in the industry.

Beard Matters

The Charm of Beard Guys

It is a fanzine showcasing artist’s affection for beard guys. The zine collects a series of portraits of guys with various beards and hairstyles in Hong Kong. Different mediums were used for the portraits to reflect the feeling of models’ styles and characters.

On the back side is a poster with context created by two styles of barber shops found in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong traditional barber shop, influenced by the Shanghainese Style barber shops spread in the 50s-60s.

The western modern barber shop, influenced by the European modern way of men’s hair styling fashion with the mixture of vintage chairs and modern tools.

City Vein Lines - Leipzig

An extended artwork of the series of City Vein Lines - Leipzig for personal collection. The art book explores the colour and printing effect with silk screen printing, hand binding onto hard cover in Z-fold format to create a Japanese armorial screen for display.

A Glance of Global Architecture

A collection of 12 pieces of architectural sketches being done in Hong Kong, Spain, Singapore, Penang, Argentina and Chengdu. Curated into a riso-printed zine gives readers a taste of the East meet West context, reflecting different styles, and characteristics of iconic architectures in each cities. The combination of 3 colours : Fluorescent neon pink, Sky blue and Gold printed on black cover and white paper offers an alternative enjoyment of reading.

A joint mini project with Zine Maker Forrest Lau, a curation of a series of iconic architectures in London into a set of name card size cards set, with some basic facts printed at the back of each drawing.
